Arise Women Nigeria

Skill Acquisition and Empowerment

ARISE Women is dedicated to accelerating nation-building through the empowerment of women in society. One of the key ways we achieve this is through our annual Skill Acquisition Programmes, held in collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. Through these programs, ARISE has trained thousands of individuals (women, and men) in various skills, enabling them to gain economic independence and contribute to the community.

In our Adopt a Village Project, we established a Skills Acquisition and Resource Centre in Dafara. This state-of-the-art facility is fully equipped and designed to empower individuals in the community by providing them with valuable vocational training and resources to enhance their livelihoods. The facility boasts a comprehensive range of equipment and tools, ensuring that participants receive hands-on training and practical experience in their chosen fields. The workshops are equipped with cutting-edge machinery, tools, and materials, enabling trainees to gain valuable skills and expertise under the guidance of experienced instructors.

The Skill Acquisition Programmes cover a wide range of skills, including Soap Making, Hat Making, Sewing Classes, Bead Making, Make-Up Classes, Event Management and Planning, and Traditional Wedding Compering. The goal is to equip individuals with practical skills that they can use to start their businesses or enhance existing ones. Many of the students who have undergone training have also become trainers themselves, passing on their knowledge to others and creating a ripple effect of empowerment within their communities.

In addition to training, ARISE has provided support to women by donating work tools such as freezers, grinding machines, sewing machines, and more. These tools help women kick-start their businesses or expand existing ones, providing them with the resources they need to thrive.

Further, ARISE has sponsored women to acquire skills in leather works, specifically Shoe, Bag, and Belt Making, through a three-month training program at the Inspire Vocational Academy. This initiative enables women to learn specialized skills in a high-demand industry, opening up new opportunities for economic growth and self-sufficiency.

In 2018, ARISE Women empowered several women by organizing an Instagram competition. The winners of the competition were awarded a grant of One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000) each to support their businesses. This financial assistance helps women overcome barriers and invest in their entrepreneurial endeavours, fostering their growth and success.

Through these various empowerment initiatives, ARISE Women is actively contributing to the development and advancement of women by providing them with the necessary skills, resources, and support to succeed in their chosen fields and become agents of positive change in society.
